Our Ride to Yellowstone and Zion NP

Updated: Mar 10, 2020

Until Tesla starts selling their cybertruck we are using the Ford F-150 to tow our trailers and other toys. This F-150 has the Ford Raptor engine so we have all the torque and power we need to get where we want to go with whatever we take with us.

There are a lot of options available for trucks today, and while we haven't tried them all (yet), we did some research before settling on this make and model.

One of the most important parts of a road trip is having space for everyone, and this truck offers all the space every kid and adult will need.

There are a bunch of different truck make and models. We decided on the Ford F-150, and there are even more options once you choose a make and model. This F-150 has the Ford Raptor engine for more torque and power, which is helpful when towing a heavy airstream or big boat and driving through the Rocky Mountains.

This is also the super crew cab with four doors, and extra leg room in the back seat. The compromise is a shorter bed, but totally worth every inch of leg room in our opinion. Anne and our oldest frequently switch off sitting in the back behind the two littles, so Anne really appreciates having a bit more room in the back to referee.

While gas economy isn't the best in this truck, it gets better gas mileage than other older trucks we've owned with less power. We make sure we keep the maintenance up-to-date and tires inflated properly to help increase our miles-per-gallon. We also try to pack light to reduce weight which increases economy.

This is an upgraded model so it has heating and cooling seats in the front and heating seats in the back. The entertainment center is touch screen and speakers work great throughout the system. There are several ports for charging in the front and middle console. There is also great storage in the doors and the back of the front seats.

We drove this truck on our trips to Yellowstone/Grand Teton, Zion National Parks towing the 30 ft airstream, and Flaming Gorge towing our 21 ft Malibu boat and had a great experience every trip.
